California Highway Patrol officer Kelly Baraga investigates the crash of a Mazda RX7 that flew through air off westbound I-80, cleared a fence and flew 15 feet into the computer classroom, injuring many of the students listening to a lecture.

Los Angeles County Coroner Betsy Magdaleno (shadow bending over) examines the body of the pedestrian killed when hit by a metrolink train. Also with her is forensic attendant Julie Bishop (shadow on right) A pedestrian was killed this morning at 7:10 am when he was hit by a Metrolink train filled with morning commuters. Two witnesses on the scene said the pedestrian was running westbound along Van Nuys boulevard in Pacoima when he was hit. The crossing gates were down and the lights were flashing. the victim was thrown 221 feet from the point of impact. the victim's name has not yet been released.

A fire at the Downtowner motel forced homeless, Charlie Burt,57, to flee his smoked filled room. He returned later for his belongings only to discover his wallet containing his Social Security check and hidden under a mattress, was missing.

Wendee Baker, kneeling right, holds the hand of Ashley Leinbach, the driver of a Jeep Cherokee that flipped on it's top after colliding with a van in the 2100 block of South Broad Street in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rescue workers were able to extract the injured driver within a few minutes, and she was transported by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center, where she was treated and released. Emergency workers praised Ms. Baker, a witness to the accident who did not know the victim, for keeping Ms. Leinbach calm while they worked to free her.
