The California election to recall Governor Gray Davis was an intensely fought campaign, condensed to two months. Actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger threw his hat in the ring to take on the state's Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamente and other candidates. When the confetti cleared on election night, the former body builder was in and the veteran politician, Davis, was out.
