The US independent shrimper is an indangered species. High Fuel Costs, a glut of imports, and low shrimp prices are killing the industry. Gabrielle Ramos, 5, from left, takes a break from crabbing with her cousin Elinore Ramos, 7, (CQ) and uncle David Ramos to buy 6 pounds of shrimp from the Jeff Noel Sunday, August 24, 2003 in Rockport Harbor.
