Traditional wrestling gym in Mysore, India, 2005. "Nada kusti", an ancient form of Indian wrestling, is almost on the verge of extinction with a constantly decreasing number of traditional garadis (gyms) struggling to survive. Even in Mysore (Karnataka state), where the sport enjoyed royal patronage for generations, and where the biggest national wrestling championships are held during the Dasara festival, most wrestlers get a meagre income. Nevertheless there are still young strong men, who put all their heart in traning, as nothing else than victory will please the spectators when pahalwans (wrestlers) enter the mud platform to fight.
