As the first multimedia category judged, viewing these entries launched an excellent discussion on the challenges of visual storytelling when presented with multiple media. The panel recognized the importance that powerful and compelling photojournalism hold for the reader, and those remained the core elements in the judging process. Also balancing the requirements of audio, video and the over all usability of the package were crucial as well.
Third place went to “The Storm’s Impact” from nytimes.com. The package’s strong visual storytelling and images looked back on the impact of Hurricane Katrina. The judges noted that this template was elegant, easy to use and scaled nicely to accommodate the growing gallery of images.
