St. Petersburg 11/20/06 Monday Marion Wallner (cq) scolds an approaching raccoon,one of four surrounding their table while picnicking with her boyfriend, Hans Maciejok at Ft. DeSoto Park Monday. A little animal harassment nor the rapidly dropping temperatures did not stop the couple, vacationing from Duesseldorf, Germany, from celebrating Maciejok’s 50th birthday. “We had a big party with the animals,” said Wallner. They were throwing bread to a bird passing by their table when four raccoons, appearing to be a mother and three siblings, came out of the brush. Soon it became apparent that the tossed bread was not enough. Several times the raccoons jumped up on the table with the couple and had to be chased away. Feeding the critters “was a mistake,” said Maciejok as he guarded their belongings. CHERIE DIEZ | Times
