Judges’ comments

Lori Allred

In this category, the winners really stood out. And it simply went back the basics. A great use and blend of nat sound, pacing that matched the story, and knowing when to cover or not cover a bit.

In the stories that didn’t place, we saw flapping lip, bobbing reporter head shots, lack of natural sound under…and not covering bites, either because the editor ran out of time, or they didn’t find enough b-roll. Some of the pieces were clean, but they just didn’t stand out.

A Fantastic job of directing the eye around the frame won “IT’S JUST A DRILL” a first place. The nats ruled in this pre planned Disaster drill piece. “$10 MILLION PLAN” had great pace but missed eye movement and some obvious screen direction cues from the reporters track.
