NPPA: Best of Photojournalism 2008 Web Site Winners

Army Staff Sgt. Shane Becker was killed in Iraq in April 2007. Back in Anchorage, Alaska his wife Crystal and daughter Cierra prepare to say goodbye.

The Becker family's story really moved the judges. The daughter's audio provide an additional perspective that pulled on the judges heart strings. The storytelling was strong. The audio levels were consistent, although a little loud at times. The photography was stronger in the Roanoke Times' audio story, Moving day -- which came in at a close second. A common weakness in this category was grammatical errors in captions.
